Laughs, Loves and Exes At The MMAC

“My First Ex-Husband” is an electrifying evening of comedic brilliance that showcases the incredible talents of Joy Behar, Susie Essman, Tovah Feldshuh, and Adrienne C. Moore. Running from January 29 to February 23, 2025, at the newly renovated MMAC Theater, this world premiere brings together eight poignant and uproarious monologues that span the complexities of love, loss, and laughter. Each woman takes the stage to share her heartfelt anecdotes about love gone wrong, pulling audiences into their pasts while simultaneously leaving them in stitches.

Joy Behar

The production, directed by Randal Myler, strikes a perfect balance between humor and vulnerability. Behar’s sharp wit sets the tone, immediately engaging the audience with her relatable and self-deprecating reflections on marriage and divorce. Essman’s portrayal of a fiery, no-holds-barred divorcee captivates and offends in the best possible way, as she takes jabs not just at her ex but at the absurdities of relationships. Feldshuh, with her rich theatrical background, immerses the audience in her rich character narratives, while Moore brings a refreshing relatability to her monologues, exploring the themes of identity and acceptance amidst the backdrop of her own marital mishaps.

What truly stands out about “My First Ex-Husband” is its powerful resonance with the audience. Each story acts as a reflection of shared experiences, illuminating the humorous yet harrowing lessons learned through personal relationships.

Susie Essman

The laughter that fills the theater is not only a response to the punchlines but also to the camaraderie felt among the audience members united in their own tales of heartbreak and resilience. This shared journey elevates the production beyond mere entertainment and into a realm of collective catharsis.

After this delightful experience, one can’t help but wonder if a sequel titled “My First Ex-Wife” is in the works. Imagine the wealth of equally rich and hilarious stories waiting to be told! The potential for new perspectives and narratives ensures that the rich vein of comedy woven through personal experiences can continue to resonate in the theater for years to come. If “My First Ex-Husband” is any indication, we can expect more laughter, more stories, and a profound celebration of womanhood in every version.
