The Hamilton Mocumentary We Needed Lincoln: The Musical

I’m a huge fan of satire and parody when it comes to comedy genres. Recently, I had the pleasure of viewing “Lincoln: The Musical,” by Artie Brennan with a cast of hilarious improvisors and actors. Lincoln: The Musical was filmed on location in NYC. This comedy delves into the world of making it on Broadway, adding a fresh take to the mockumentary genre.

Drawing parallels to classic mockumentaries like “Waiting for Guffman,” “Best in Show,” and Robert Townsend’s “Hollywood Shuffle,” “Lincoln The Musical” is a laugh-out-loud journey.

Artie Brennan and Anthony Giordano the film’s directors do a superb job of double helming. Artie who also portrays multiple characters delivers nuanced and hilarious performances through each line. His portrayal of the Post Malone parody character, Lil Post Maloney is especially notable.

One standout character is the handicapped, yet comically abrasive choreographer played by a treasure of a comedian. His witty joke about adapting “Equus” with a twist, changing the ending, adds a blend of highbrow and sophomoric humor to the mix.

The film follows a Broadway producer’s attempt to capitalize on the success of “Hamilton” by enlisting an egotistical Hollywood director and a clueless Soundcloud rapper to stage a play about Abraham Lincoln, starring an unknown female lead. Written and directed by Artie Brennan and Anthony Giordano, the duo behind the acclaimed live Off-Broadway comedy “The Super Crazy Funtime Show,” the movie boasts a stellar cast with credits from various Off-Broadway productions and popular TV shows.

“Lincoln: The Musical” smartly uses NYC as a vibrant backdrop and delivers comedic gold with moments like the cast’s retreat. The catchy songs like “Abby Abbey Baby” and witty lines like “I’m the man with the hat, what do you think about that” add to the film’s charm.

The standout performances and impressive camera work enhance the viewing experience. With a runtime of 65 minutes and presented in a 16:9 aspect ratio, “Lincoln: The Musical” is a must-watch. For more information, you can visit lincolnthemusicalfilm.com.

In conclusion, this mockumentary is a delightful blend of humor, satire, and musical entertainment. My Emancipation Proclamation for all comedy lovers out there: check out this film!
